Stacy Sage Memorial Scholarship

Impact

Our beloved daughter, Stacy Beth Sage, M.S., ATC, died on August 4, 2013 in Sacramento, California, after a courageous, hard-fought battle against cancer. Stacy was born on January 25, 1966 in Pomona, CA and attended Montvue Elementary School in Pomona. She was involved in gymnastics, dance, skating, and her all-time favorite sport, baseball, from Mini-Minors to Majors, to All-Stars all through school.

Stacy received her A.A. at Mt. SAC (where her great uncle, Ray Sage played football and was part of the first graduating class in 1948). Her father, Steve, also graduated from Mt. SAC, in 1971. Stacy obtained her B.S. at Cal State Fullerton and her Master of Science Degree at Eastern New Mexico University. She worked in California, New Mexico, Texas and North Carolina as the head athletic trainer at colleges and universities for 25 years. She returned to California in 2006 as the head athletic trainer for the Walgreens Distribution Center in Woodland. Throughout her career, only positive comments followed her, praising not only her expertise in her profession, but her ability to teach and motivate, her dedication, friendliness and always, her willingness to help others. She was a beautiful, amazing lady who touched the lives of many and would be pleased to know that this scholarship is being used to help young people at her alma mater, in her chosen profession.

She graduated from Alta Loma High School, where, as a senior, enrolled in a physical therapy aide class (at the encouragement of her mother, Carol, who began her college education as a physical therapy major at USC), earning college credits with academic classes at Mt. SAC and lab classes in the Physical Therapy Department at San Antonio Hospital. She later put herself through her freshman and sophomore years of college as a physical therapy aide, working at schools and clinics.
